Calling all Student Activists...
Bradley Day | 10.08.2007 18:46 | Climate Camp 2007 | Climate Chaos
-Radical student activism in general appears to be at a low, and certainly is a minority activity.
-There is a lack of Climate Change focus on student campaigns still.
-Other organisations give ready-made prescribed campaigns for students, but we want to offer the resources and information to students that would aid autonomous and creative campaigns.
-‘Greenwash’ has become a major issue, meaning the divide between genuine solutions and fake quick-fixes needs to be struck and exposed.
What we intend to do…
-Provide clear and useful information, aimed specifically at activists' needs, on all the major issues surrounding climate change (including the more obscure issues such as “clean” coal and climate change and war).
-Produce research into corporate and government activities, but also place a focus on the activities of universities.
-Forge links with other organisations to allow the multiple elements of activism to be explored.
-Create a networking space for students, to aid a radical student climate movement to be built in unity.
The project is, and always will be, an organic and fluid entity that will react to the changing needs of student activists. We are really looking for other students to share their thoughts on what resources would prove useful to activists. We are creating this project out of our own experiences of what we believe could benefit the movement, but we really need to hear more about how we can make this as useful as possible for everyone.
Also, we really want more people on board. The project is run by and for students, and is completely non-hierarchical and open. We really want more students to get involved and make this work.
We'll be at climate camp, and you can phone Brad on 07758012792 to meet us, or drop Brad or Rebecca an email on 370885@swansea.ac.uk or rebecca.quinn@hotmail.co.uk
