cardiff Disarm DSEi meeting thursday 26th July

Glamorgan Staff Club 7pm
(next to Pica Pica on Westgate Street)
With a ‘guest speaker’ from London Disarm DSEi, this meeting is intended as an opportunity for people to discuss the extreme global impact of the arms trade, and the possibilities for taking direct action against it.
For those who may not know, DSEi (Defence systems exhibition international) is the worlds biggest arms fair, and it takes place in London docklands every two years. It will arrive again this September, and as ever DISARM is planning action against it. In previous years trains, stations, roads and even the river Thames have been blockaded in order to disrupt, oppose and ultimately to close down this exploitative trade. As part of the build-up to DSEi there will also be two days of action against arms manufacturers across the country at the end of July.
In 2005, DSEi hosted 1,100 companies, 70 official military delegation and 20,000 visitors from across the globe. Many of the countries invited were at war, some with each other. Many were dictatorships with appalling human rights records. Many had huge national debts with populations in severe states of poverty and starvation. Weapon sales are a booming capitalist business worth in the region of $40 billion a year. With profits like this it is no surprise that the UK/US are so keen to go to war…
If you would like to help us shut down the arms trade, please come along and take part in the discussions. Everyone is welcome.
