Jul. 15, 2007 (McClatchy-Tribune Regional News delivered by Newstex) --
Brothers Tyler Summers and Cameron Summers, both Eldorado High School graduates, are being recognized.

Tyler Summers has been awarded a U.S. Fulbright Postgraduate Scholarship by the Australian-American Fulbright Commission to study control theory at the Australian National University in Canberra for one year beginning this fall. He also received the Australian Alumni Scholarship

designation for being the highest ranked postgraduate Fulbright applicant.

Tyler Summers completed his master's degree in aerospace engineering at the University of Texas-Austin this spring where he also participated as a graduate student in the university jazz program and was active in the local music scene as a drummer. He graduated from Texas Christian University in 2004 and Eldorado in 2000.

Cameron Summers was selected principal trumpet for the American Wind Symphony Orchestra and performed in May and June.

The AWSO was founded in Pittsburgh in 1957 by Robert Austin Boudreau, who has been conducting the orchestra for its entire 50-year history. Initially, the AWSO performed concerts on a renovated coal barge on the Allegheny River in Pennsylvania's Point State Park. In 1976, the orchestra began traveling with its new multimillion-dollar floating arts center, Point Counterpoint II. The self-propelled PCP II features a concert stage with an acoustical shell and a chamber theater. The orchestra has given waterfront concerts on most major waterways in the United States, the Caribbean and many European waterways.

This year the orchestra traveled the U.S. coastline from Brownsville, Texas, to New Haven, Conn.

Cameron Summers graduated from Texas Christian University in May with a bachelor's in mechanical engineering. He has received a scholarship to pursue a master's degree in music at Manhattan School of Music in New York City beginning this fall. He is a 2003 Eldorado graduate. The brothers are the sons of Randy and Candice Summers.

NAVAL PREP GRAD:

Juaquina Soland of Gallup, a 2006 graduate of Gallup High School, graduated May 18 from the Naval Academy Preparatory School, Newport Naval Station, Newport, R.I.

Upon her graduation, Soland was appointed to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., and reported as part of the class of 2011 on June 24.

Soland received a congressional appointment from Rep. Tom Udall, D-N.M.

Soland is the daughter of Darren Soland, a lieutenant with the N.M. State Police, and Henrietta Soland, McKinley County Division Two Magistrate Judge.
