Sally Hunt should resign

Hunt and Yudkin1
If we want more influence, we have to take ourselves seriously and leave Palestine to the Israelis.
I know that our credibility with my Israeli friends and their supporters in Parliament depends on our ability to speak on behalf of that part of the profession that supports Israeli atrocities.
Conference motions, like the Israeli boycott, that I know will show Israel for what it is and has the support of our wider membership simply alienate us from our Israeli friends.
As many individual members have said to me recently, my union needs to be united and inward facing, not focused on foreign issues like the abuses by my Israeli friends of the Palestinians.
I need less bureaucracy so I can steer the union away from these issues.
It is not always possible to be all things to all people, especially when you are elected to lead a union.
Part of being general secretary is about taking difficult decisions like the one to ignore the abuses of Palestinian academics by the Israelis.
These decisions are unpopular with some but even those who disagree with me know that my primary interest is in protecting the Israelis, and that I am not afraid to bite the bullet when necessary.
So anyone who says that what Israel is doing to the Palestinians is wrong can take a hike.
