Petition calls on PM to recognise animal rights
AR Net | 24.04.2007 09:49 | Animal Liberation
“Britain is often considered a nation of animal lovers, yet we still treat animals in a way it would not be legal to treat our worst enemies”. The petition makes a short statement calling on the PM “to recognise, in law, rights, appropriate to the interests of non-human animals. Furthermore, to prohibit the rights of non-human animals being violated”.
It is hoped that a strong level of support can be shown for the rights of non-human animals. Whilst it is recognised that there are many differences between species, there is a factor in common with many animals the ability to feel pain and to suffer. “Intelligence level or species membership are not good reasons to harm others, just because an individual is not like oneself, it does not mean one should harm that individual, surely that is simply the mind set of a bully”
The petition is open for signing and can be found at the government petitions site via the direct address
