Spirited small local groups and families in Lewisham came together yesterday to march from Catford to Lewisham Police Station. They were protesting, among other things, about the use of deadly knives and guns in the community.

Unfortunately the police prevented a Samba band from attending, on the pretext that 10 days notice was required. No police photographers could be seen but the area is well endowed with CCTV anyway. Although there were quite a lot of police present they mostly kept at a short distance from the marchers, which makes a very pleasant change.

Several speakers used a small amp to voice their concerns to an appreciative audience when the march ended by the police station. Later the demo decamped to Mountsfield Park for more speeches.

The video shows the march, which at one point was allowed to occupy the whole road in the busy shopping centre. Fond memories of 'Reclaim the Streets' perhaps?
