Vigil held for DR Congo asylum seekers

A candlelight vigil was held in Leeds on Monday 5th march to remember all those deported to the DR Congo one week ago.
The vigil was called by members of the West Yorkshire Congolese community.
Around 80 people gathered at Dortmund Square in Leeds to light candles for friends and family who were forced to return, despite a massive campaign to stop the deportations, last Monday.
Members of the DRC community spoke of their anger and sadness at the forced returns. . Speakers called for a continued campaign to stop all deportations to what remains one of the most dangerous countries on earth.
A message from the Bishop of Ripon and Leeds was read out and a two minute silence was held.
