Films*, local speaker from IUS, discussion on the situation
of workers and trade unionists in Iraq.
*Go Forward IFC (23 mins) – about the Iraq Freedom Congress, an initiative bringing together democratic and secular forces in Iraq in opposing both the US/UK occupation and sectarian violence. IFC includes 2 of the biggest union federations. Film footage of workers and students struggles in Iraq.
Meeting Face to Face (27 mins) – in June 2005 a delegation of 6 Iraqi trade unionists toured the USA hosted by US Labor Against the War, visiting 25 cities and addressing several thousand trade unionists, peace activists and others. The documentary describes the workers movement in Iraq while expressing the message Iraqi workers want to send to the world: end the occupation, oppose privatisation of Iraq’s resources, support the right of Iraqi workers to organise free independent trade unions.
The meeting takes place at the Common Place, Wharf Street, Leeds, LS2 7EQ
