Demand that Tesco Cut their Ties with Greenergy Biofuels!

Tesco hold 25% of shares in the British biofuel company Greenergy Biofuels Ltd and are their main customer. Greenergy's website promises customers 'carbon-neutral' and sustainable biofuels from UK rapeseed oil. Research done by Biofuelwatch shows, however, that already about half their biodiesel comes from tropical crops. Palm oil, soy and sugar cane production is linked to the destruction of rainforests, large scale carbon emissions from deforestation, forest and peat fires, and, in many cases, human rights abuses. They now want to build a new biodiesel refinery and double their total production - relying ever more on imports of environmentally disastrous feedstocks.
Biofuelwatch demand that Tesco withdraw their investment in Greenergy, only sell biofuels if they can guarantee that they are not linked to deforestation and other bad environmental and social impacts, and take real measures to reduce their carbon footprint.
Please help us spread the word about Tesco's biofuels - and let us know if you have any ideas on how to campaign further on this! ( info@biofuelwatch.org.uk) . Thank you.
