The Australian public in their ignorance has given both houses of parliament to the Liberal Party so it’s only a matter of legislation and internet providers would be in breach of the Law if they failed to comply. Targeting the free flow of information on the internet has never been easier in Australia.
Conservative mentalities contract in earnest; minds devoid of vision, obsession with control, regulation and maintaining the ‘status quo’ are the hallmarks of conservatism. Conservative mentalities fear spontaneous expression, all radical change (nature) and creative expansionism; theirs’ is the world of prescribed formulas and contractionism. Not surprisingly, a high psychological cost is associated with adherence to rigid, autocratic unnatural formulas for life; morbidity, joylessness, fear and violence characterise conservatism wherever it dominates.
Conservatism is actually a mental disease, contrast its rigidity to a constantly expanding/creative universe! Furthermore, no human being has the innate right to regulate or otherwise impose a set of values onto another. In this universe all humans are born equal, attempts to limit expression and personal discovery are met with immediate resistance for very good reason. We instinctively resist all attempts to limit personal freedoms including Minister Coonan’s intentions to filter or otherwise obstruct the free flow of information from the internet.
History records that books (mediums of information) were once considered an extremely dangerous threat to those who imposed theological 'realities' onto illiterate populations. The information police of the time were the Inquisitors!
Today the largest medium of information is the internet, the neo-conservative inquisition of today views it as threatening and will therefore attack unregulated flows of information without mercy, as has been done in the past. History is an amazing mirror to the future – lacklustre mentalities tend to repeat it.
Contractionism has many guises whether it is the contraction of prescribed religious doctrine or political ideologies the results are the same, SLAVERY! A fixed, prescribed model or paradigm does not allow for creative change or spontaneous expression; fear, coercion and promises of utopias are the means utilised to confine dull, feeble and fearful minds in real worlds of despair. Conservatives are terrified of life on its own terms. Natural life is loathed, debased and demonised; the world becomes a place of (manufactured ) woe, a place of hardship and testing for those who desire entry into an imaginary utopia. Promises of happiness in the afterlife rob people of happiness in this life!
Contractionists are easily identified by the fear of all that would challenge their constructed ‘reality’; they dread even the prospect of change, the new/unexpected/unknown, challenges their pursed, anal attitude to existence. A cursory analysis reveals the morbidity characteristic of conservative governments around the world. The Bush regime and Howard’s Australia are noted by fear tactics, extreme social contractionism, racism, xenophobia and lack of vision. They eagerly employ violent means (war and draconian impositions) in futile attempts to solve social problems. It is obvious that war and other violent, contractive 'solutions' are entirely inappropriate.
In the face of fear mongering, false promises, lies, deceit and ever increasing assaults on freedoms and civil liberties, always confront conservatives with the fact that their solutions are regressive and contractive; the glaring lack of innovative constructive achievements plagues all conservatives. They do however share nihilism as the final resolution of a perverse ideology.
Governments based on lies, deceit and failure will cling tenaciously to their delusions, insisting they are succeeding when the obvious reality is failure upon failure – not one thing right in YEARS in the case of the Bush regime. Not one thing whatsoever, yet neo-con lunatics persist in their delusions. The closest historical parallel is the Fuhrer bunker in the last days of WWII – when criminal governments face exposure and the justice that awaits them they have no alternative but to adhere fanatically to their delusions. The reality of death, destruction and torture inflicted on others is just too terrible a reality for the perpetrators to bear themselves – cyanide, anyone?
Bush’s fanatic pursuits and his insane insistence that his government has performed well when reality dictates that it is the most incompetent government in U.S. history, confirms that conservatism is a disease that must be eliminated if we are to live in a reasonably sane world.
Peace.
