"For Freedom of Movement and the Right to Stay"
Today, Saturday October 7th 2006, a march through London is calling on migrants, asylum seekers and their friends, families and colleagues to act together against the criminalization of migrants and the denial of their rights; with the intention to build a transnational movement to change conditions for the better.
This event marks the 3rd International Day of Action for Freedom of Movement as called for by the European Social Forum in Athens. Activities will take place in various cities across Europe and Africa. Activists and migrants are being called to join together to resist the authorities and demand equal rights for all. So far 218 groups from 23 countries have signed the call (18 in the UK), including groups/signatories from Austria, Belgium, Benin, Cameroon, Canada, Congo, Cote D'Ivoire, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Mali, Morocco, Mauritania, Netherlands, Niger, Poland, Senegal, Spain, Sweden, Ukraine, and other European networks and individuals.
The movement for open borders is growing, and is well able to organise across existing borders!
The London mobilization has been organized by a coalition of groups, converging from a number of different experiences and political perspectives:
