The demo was small but noisy. We gave out lots of leaflets, spoke over the megaphone about how asylum seekers are forced to sign at reporting centres and face the constant threat of being detained. We read out the latest list of ‘world conflict situations’ according to Crisis Watch, and asserted that no-one should be sent to any of these places.
We’re glad that No Borders is continuing regular pickets on the first Saturday of each month, and we will continue with the first Tuesday (next one on 7 November). Also Crossroads Women’s Centre has organised a special picket this Friday lunchtime, which we will be supporting. The more demos outside Communications House, the more that asylum seekers signing know that they have our solidarity and the more passers-by get to learn exactly what this anonymous looking building at Old Street roundabout really is!
