Wrexham Council tonight made the shameful decision to allow landfill dumping to go on at Hafod Quarry in Johnstown. Members of the public in the gallery heard several councillors talk about their hearts telling them they should revoke the planning permission, but their heads (presumably listening to the drivel from the planning officers) telling them they should allow dumping to go ahead with just a few modifications to the outdated and discredited permission which dates from over 10 years ago. Democracy? Hahahaha.

Some people were denied access to the public gallery in spite of seats being available. Several microphones didn't seem to be working or councillors were mumbling into them so that it was almost impossible for the public to hear what was going on. So much for openness and transparency.

The site is owned by Mersey Waste Holdings and will be importing unsorted landfill waste from five Merseyside authorities: Liverpool, Wirral, Sefton, St Helen's and Knowsley.
