When the war criminals George W. Bush and Tony Blair howl like wolves in the choir, that is a prelude to shooting. On Saturday, the neocolonial emperors welcomed the draft of a UN resolution brought by Paris and “modified” by the US that allegedly should end the war between Lebanon and Israel. Bush, now an advocate for peace, praised the “progress on a long way” and spoke nebulously of an “important first step” to his accomplice on the Thames.
John Bolton, US ambassador at the UN, ensured a cease-fire or peace would not come quickly. The lies of Americans about Saddam Hussein’s alleged weapons of mass destruction once justified the attack on oil-rich Iraq. With the French, Bolton played with the letters of the draft so the “immediate end of hostilities” as demanded by Paris would never occur. He repeated the metaphors “immediate end to the attacks by Hezbollah” and “immediate end to all Israel’s offensive military operations.”
The man who daily frustrates UN interests with his work gave Tel Aviv a right for more war crimes in the next days and weeks. What are “offensive operations”? Israel’s murder and plunder in Lebanon was described in the US from the beginning as “defensive.” Ultimately the land has a right to “defense” so that it can run wild now and then. Massacring children and civilians is collateral war-related damage. Israel’s minister of justice Ramon shouted for joy: “The text is good for Israel. We have reached several military goals.”
This resolution actually facilitates the unpunished continuance of Israel’s aggression. State terrorism becomes international policy in a time when Bush, Blair, Rice, Bolton and Olmert drive the world into wars, inventing that kind of terrorism that guarantees the positioning of their armies in all countries to conquer resources, divide up economically interesting areas and wage a parallel crusade against Islam. The UN only seems to be used for legitimation.
