Spoil BP's BTC party
Baku Ceyhan | 17.05.2006 15:49 | Ecology | Globalisation | Social Struggles | London
5pm Friday 26 May 2006 - outside BP's HQ - St James Square, SW1Y
Georgia: House in Dgvari village - local residents say it collapsed due to BTC
Azerbaijan: Riot cops intimidate public
Azerbaijan: Cops break up a demo against the regime
Turkey: A bulldozer patrols the BTC corridor
Georgia: Angry villagers complain of damage above pipeline
The BTC pipeline props up authoritarianism in Azerbaijan, has rendered numerous Georgian homes uninhabitable and polluted water supplies, and led to intimidation of critics and the Kurdish population by the Turkish state.
BP are convinced that now that the pipes are buried, they can sit back and relax. Meanwhile, the affected communities fear that when the oil starts flowing, we’ll forget about them. Prove them wrong!
WHEN: Friday 26 May 2006, 5-6pm – HOURS before the pipeline comes onstream!
WHERE: BP HQ, 1 St James Square, London, SW1Y 4PD (Piccadilly Circus tube)
BRING: Banners, whistles, your voice & your friends...
WHY: Show them that we're not going away!
