A boost for video activism

bandwidth have made it easier than ever to make and distribute
independent video, the number being made appears to be
disproportionately low compared to the number of people filming at events. Various projects have been initiated to empower more
people to get involved with radical video production and screening, they include online distribution, archives, screening databases and training sessions.
{{Additionally there are two events organised that will hopeful move things forward.
In London next weekend there will be a video activism gathering
[ http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2005/12/330592.html] consisting of skill sharing workshops, presentations, discussions such as the role of cameras on demos (how video can be used to get protesters both nicked and set free), along with feedback from the G8 video indymedia experience. Additionally there are plans to produce a DVD showcase of the participants work during the event as a video 'how-to guide' and promo to raise the profile of radical film making and encourage more people to have a go themselves.
The event is modeled on similar national gathering in previous years and takes place this time at the rampART social centre
[ http://www.rampart.co.nr], starting friday evening (20th Jan 7pm).
The gathering is free and crash space available for those attending from outside London. However, space is limited and anyone interested in attending should first email real2reelATriseup.net
The event ends sunday evening with a special public screening of activist films. These will probably including 'Latitude 36' from Cine Rebelde [ http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2006/01/330751.html]) plus
music and live VJ'ing. It starts 7pm Jan 22nd, every one welcome. Entry
by donation.

{{ ooops - leave this out actually for the time being as apparently it
is invite only and not to be widely forwarded so I better check
first...
{{
{{ Another event is a Activist Video Exchange taking place in
manchester next month. It will look at how groups currently working
with each other, what resources
{{ are available for screenings and educational work, exchanging
resources and working out how best to catalogue them and make them
available for other groups.
{{ It will also be a forum for discussion of a new online project
called 'Clearer Channel'. It's invite only but you can invite yourself
by emailing ????...
