On the day when the mainstream UK news outlets are running the alleged story about alleged class division between John Prescott and his boss Tony Blair - and on the alleged rift between Gordon Brown and Tony Blair over the British EU rebate... in contrast with the absence from the main news media in the UK of anything like decent reporting on how BOTH Prescott and Brown are as much responsible as Blair for continuing with the policy of impoverishment of huge parts of the world’s populations...
How precious is our humanity?
Is it compatible with poverty?
Is it compatible with indignity?
Who makes this wounding disparity?
The divide of the haves and the have-nots
Of the bereft assigned to life in empty lots
The immoral the scheming the selfish
allowed to rob the rest in naked relish?
.........
Was it ‘evolution’ that failed to rid ‘us’ of greed?
Or was ‘evolution’ myth so we stay in the greed?
Is that why on each ritual occasion
and on every hyped up anniversary
there appear ‘piety’ ‘compassion’
as if to make us our own adversary
and admit our overall fickle nature
to balance which we need an overture
that is typically marketably dressed
enabling trade as our guilt is redressed?
----
Are we even narrower as a worldwide mass
of apparently thinking caring beings who pass
as almost perfect managers of this kind earth
as in fact we let greed suffocate hope at birth?
Are we those of us holding no power in offices
of state at any level so incapable of free thought
that we put up with mindlessness and utter rot
being wrapped in fancy packages by the vicious
stealers of faith robbers of livelihoods worldwide
keeping greed alive and maintaining this divide
between those who daily go without a decent meal
and those who daily waste a years’ food to steal
the last breath of life still left in the robbed earth
so blessed with so much there cannot be dearth
of food or basic amenities for one single human
.......”
