Illegal deportation attempt

(Amir is an aslum seeker from Iran who was a journalist in his country and was imprisoned and tortured for his political beliefs. He was given his deportation papers in a dawn raid and was supposed to be deported tomorrow, Thursday.)
At 4am this morning there was an attempt to deport Amir anyway. The attempted deportation was entirely illegal, and only didn't go ahead because Amir's teacher, who is also a paralegal, was there to intervene and prevent it taking place. Amir is now being held in a deportation centre in Heathrow airport. It is as yet entirely unclear how long Amir will remain there or what will happen next. Tony Greenstein is currently seeking an explanation of how the Home Office could have stayed a deportation and not taken measures to prevent it from going ahead, and what is now to happen to Amir.
If you want to phone Amir to give him support, I have
both a number for the deportation centre and his mobile number. Please e-mail me and I will forward them to you.

There is a meeting to plan what we can do, tomorrow, 6pm at the Cowley Club, Brighton. Please spread the word.
