The latest Shortwave Report (November 4) is up at the website
in both broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (28:47)
This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, China Radio International, the Voice of Russia, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From NETHERLANDS- In Paris, riots are continuing a week after an incident where 2 African youth died while trying to avoid police- charges of institutional racism were given credence when the Interior minister referred to the youth as "scum." UN Human Rights monitors say they will turn down an invitation to visit Guantanamo Bay prison because they will not be allowed to speak with the uncharged captives. The UN Security Council demanded that Syria fully cooperate with the investigation into the murder of former Lebanese Prime Minister Hariri- the threatened Iraqi-style sanctions have been put on hold awaiting Syrian response.
From CHINA- The Chinese Foreign Minister told the UN Security Council that it would be inappropriate to threaten Syria with sanctions. In Damascus, hundreds of demonstrators pledged support for their President who they insist is innocent. Iran's government has removed 40 ambassadors and diplomats as the level of confrontation with the West increased- they also allowed UN inspectors further access to high security military sites. The realignment of US troops in Japan was met with protests and demonstrations in several areas of Japan.
From RUSSIA- A commentary on the Iraqi Prime Minister's request to the UN Security Council for an extension of the presence of Coalition troops, since the mandate expires at the end of this year. This brings up the question of whether the presence of troops increases security or is the reason for the attacks by the resistance fighters.
From CUBA- Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said he looks forward to a debate with G Bush at the Summit of the Americas in Argentina, stressing that the FTAA is doomed to fail. Then a Viewpoint on the 3rd Peoples Summit held at the same time in Argentina, as a protest and alternative to the Summit of the Americas.
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday evening at 7pm (PST) on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via
There are several other streams that work better- Freak Radio Santa Cruz now streams this program on Friday at 9:00am (PST)
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)-

And the Partytown streams are great and informative- (13.3MB)
