Peace Message
This Council notes with concern the recent protests which have taken place at the EDO/MBM factory in Moulescoomb which follow a High Court injunction, and have resulted in several police arrests.
This Council upholds the right of citizens to peaceful and lawful protest.
EDO/MBM IS PART OF AN AMERICAN OWNED GROUP OF COMPANIES MANUFACTURING BOMB RELEASE MECHANISMS, TARGET SCANNERS AND WEAPONS INTERFACING SYSTEMS FOR AIRCRAFT AND TANKS. THIS TECHNOLOGY IS AND HAS BEEN USED IN THE IRAQ CONFLICT, WHERE THE LOSS OF LIFE IS ESTIMATED AT 100,000 PEOPLE. THESE COMPONENTS ARE MANUFACTURED IN THE COMPANY'S FACTORY AT HOME FARM INDUSTRIAL ESTATE, MOULESCOOMB.

Brighton & Hove Peace Message
The City of Brighton & Hove is proud of being a UN Peace Messenger City, one of only 80 world-wide.
The city's tradition of welcoming diversity in residents and visitors alike is well established and internationally recognised. We celebrate every indivdual's right to live in peace and harmony, to learn and prosper in thier communities, alongside people of all cultures, abilities and religions, irrespective of gender and sexuality, education, age or background.
The people of Brighton & Hove want to retain the reputation of being a City of Peace.
WHILST WE WELCOME ALL VISITORS AND ALL PEACEFUL TRADE IN BRIGHTON & HOVE, WE THE UNDERSIGNED, DEPLORE THE MANUFACTURE OR TRADE OF ARMAMENTS AND WEAPON COMPONENTS WITHIN THE CITY.
THIS TRADE IS IMMORAL AND UNWELCOME AND HAS NO PLACE IN A UN PEACE MESSENGER CITY.
This Council accordingly resolves:
To add the name of the City Council to the message
To fly the UN flag from Council buildings on September 21 2005, The International Day of Peace and in subsequent years thereafter to show the city's support for the vlaues the organisation espouses.
