Stop the next generation of nuclear weapons
Come to Aldermaston on Easter Monday
28 March 2005
12 noon - 5.0pm
* the stopping of plans for developing new nuclear weapons
* a dismantling of the Trident nuclear warheads currently in service
* a new era for Aldermaston as a centre for decommissioning and research into the disposal of nuclear waste
Gather around the base
Walk round it, decorate it, sing to it, discuss it, reject it.
Unlike last year's London-Aldermaston march, the day will have a minimum of central organisation and depends on you being nonviolent, open to the experience, creative, and self-sufficient.
You will be welcomed with information about Aldermaston and the new developments, opportunities to talk to others, and encouragement to walk around the fence as far as your legs wish to go! Take a short walk to the site of the planned new laser facility, or a walk of 5-6 miles around the base. Please bring ideas and items for decorating the fence (bringing these from others in your area helps to carry the protest wider), bring music and activities for all ages, and bring loud voices for our collective shout and wail of protest at 3.30pm.
* Workshops :How to get involved in Block the Builders
* Training: Taking part in mass nonviolent direct action
* Speakers: The Next Generation campaign
Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) Aldermaston is where the UK makes its nuclear weapons, our weapons of mass destruction, the weapons that are immoral, illegal and contravene the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Building work has recently begun on a massive programme of new developments at Aldermaston - join the campaign to stop them. This your chance to see what is happening and to join in a good-natured but passionate protest that says:
STOP DEVELOPING NUCLEAR WEAPONS
STOP SERVICING NUCLEAR WEAPONS
STOP DEVELOPING NUCLEAR WEAPONS
SUPPORT THE NON-PROLIFERATION TREATY
DECOMMISSION ALL NUCLEAR WEAPONS NOW
Access and transport
This is a nuclear base set mostly in the countryside and access may not be perfect. You will need to be self-sufficient in food, drink, warm clothing and boots, and transport. We have booked Tadley Community Hall, which is a 10-15 minute walk from the fence, where there are toilets and a kitchen for your use as well as a warm space to sit and rest
AWE Aldermaston is on the A340 at Tadley, between Reading and Newbury. We will gather at near the West Gate at Bluebell Woods, and hope that parking will be available inside the base at West Gate (we are negotiating with the MoD for car and coach parking) : look for signs. Nearest rail stations are Aldermaston and Mortimer and both are a 4-5 mile walk/cycle. Buses to Tadley from Reading. Public transport may be difficult as this is a Bank Holiday. See here for a location map.
