Oxford MP Petitioned Over War

Non-aligned people today collected signatures on a petition asking their local member to oppose British involvement in the upcoming attacks on Fallujah and other Iraqi cities.
Acting on information provided by groups such as Voices in the Wilderness (website given) five Oxford residents went to the Templars shopping centre in Cowley, East Oxford, and spoke to shoppers about the war and collected signatures on their petition. The petition read:
"Please tell Geoff Hoon: Don't let British Troops support Bush's Massacres in Iraq's cities. The senseless slaughter of civilians is making a desperate situation even worse."
In an hour and a half, 82 signatures were collected and then handed in to the office of Andrew Smith, MP, whose office is located in that shopping centre. Mr Smith was not in his office and the staff member there could not be encouraged to open the door, nor to come downstairs and receive the petitions personally but they were posted through the letter box for Mr Smith.
The event was kept off the shopping centre's own premises by security guards and took place on the pavement outside the centre. It was attended by a photographer from the Oxford Mail.
