Extra Investment For Recycling In Scotland
It seems that in Feb 2004, Scotland, or rather the Scottish Exec, was 'dissed' for achieving an appualingly low level of materials reclamation - 2.3%
That is only 2.3% of waste was recycled in Scotland last year. This has been in th news and debated around th place since (you can find more details on the beeb and such like...) - in June however, it was announced that there would be £14 million investment for recycling in Scotland. Maybe it is to match this, or maybe it is to better it, but Ross Finnie, Environment Minister for th Scottish Executive, has announced that (something like) £70 million will be made available through the Exec and its channels, over 5 years; to be shared by 5 Scottish Councils_ by this act they intend to improve the level of recycling (materials reclamation) to 20% by the end of this year!
They seem confident that they will achieve this, stating that they hope to achieve a self set target of 28% by the end of 2005.
i say well done to them:)
