MEDIA RELEASE: 11 AUGUST 2004
MOOT
MOOT is a unique opportunity for people over the age of 16 to attend three five-day workshops to express their ideas through cutting-edge media arts
Working with 3 professional artists, the 35 participants on the project will explore their experiences and attitudes about Leeds through digital video and photography, sound and animation, giving a voice to the people of Leeds and allowing them to have their say on how they see their city.
The project runs through September and October and will be split in to three five day workshops, which the participants will attend full time, from 9.30am to 3.30pm. They will progress through the stages of ideas generation, development and final production, resulting in a CD-rom or DVD to take home and a showing of the final work at Lawnswood’s open day and as part of Intermix04, Pavilion’s screenings at Leeds International Film Festival.
Moot is part of the arts@leeds Celebrating Creative Communities programme of regeneration through culture and the project is looking to recruit participants from residential areas across Leeds. Streets within Woodhouse, University, Headingley, Hyde Park, Potternewton, Sheepscar, Beeston, New Wortley, Holbeck, Chapel Allerton, Harehills, Gipton, Killingbeck and Burmantofts are all included in the catchment area.
Recruitment is now open to anyone living in the catchment area over the age of 16, and we are looking for a broad range of people to take part; no experience of media arts is necessary. Participation on this exciting initiative is totally free, we’ll even cover costs of transport, lunch and some childcare. All they need is the commitment to stay the distance over the three workshops and a desire to share their ideas.
Anyone interested in taking part in Moot should contact Pavilion for further information:

Editors Notes

It investigates the relationship between media art product, the public realm, audience and the social context in which it is generated, showcased and understood. www.pavilion.org.uk
Lawnswood is a truly comprehensive school. It believes all students have talent and our focus must be on teaching and learning. It values a sense of harmony, equality, independence and enjoyment in learning. It believes in rights with responsibilities, co-operation, consideration and courtesy. In order for students to fulfil their potential it is very important to develop the right atmosphere of respect, pride and challenge. All students can do well and will, if they have high expectations of themselves.
