SHAC Action Alert: BOC and Marks & Spencers
CloseHLSCampaign | 13.07.2004 10:34 | Animal Liberation
We have covered BOC before as an evil company profiting from the gases used
to kill the tortured and unwanted animals that die in their hundreds EVERY
DAY inside of Huntingdon Life Sciences’ labs. BOC are a fundamental supplier
to HLS, one they need to be able to carry out their sickening work; they are
the IG Farben of the animal holocaust.
BOC is the most important supplier on the list, and they will go! Pressure
will be brought to bear where ever this company trades until they get the
message that HLS truly is bad for business.
It has been brought to the attentions of campaigners that one of the biggest
customers of BOC’s logistic side, which also trades as Gist, is none other
than the famous UK high street shopping chain Marks & Spencers.
Essentially, Gist transports all M&S products around the country, so to
losing this contract would heavily impact on BOC. Meanwhile, M&S pride
themselves on their ethical and environmental stances, though not telling
their customers they use one of the country’s most unethical companies to get
the goods to their shops. M&S are going through a spot of their own bother at
the moment with bad finances and takeover threats.
So the time to strike is NOW. The demand is simple: Marks & Spencers should
cancel their contract with BOC/Gist while BOC is foolish enough to continue
supplying HLS with its poisonous gases. On Wednesday there will be a
demonstration at the M&S annual general meeting in London. Meet from 10am
onwards, at the Royal Festival Hall, Belvedere Road - very close to Waterloo
station.
If you cannot make it then please contact M&S on the address below, or
perhaps do a demo at your nearest store. Note, we are not saying that Marks &
Spencers have links to HLS, just to HLS gas supplier BOC, and we want M&S to
put pressure on BOC to sever the links with HLS.
Don’t forget to let BOC also know that you are putting pressure on M&S to
drop them because of BOC’s refusal to drop HLS as a customer. The important
thing is to let BOC know that their entire business will be targeted by legal
protests over their links with HLS, links they are going to have to explain
to their other clients.
