On the one hand, Honest Food investigates and monitors the regulatory structure surrounding the food industry and campaigns for necessary reform of the system. At the same time, Honest Food has started a separate campaign to

encourage pubs, restaurants, supermarkets and consumers to source and buy, as far as possible, food that is produced locally and seasonally.

Healthy Food Initiative
Managed by the Countryside Alliance and funded by the Health Action Zone, food co-ops have been established throughout North Cumbria, to help address the appalling statistics of coronary heart disease and cancer in the area.

Healthy food initiatives, linking local food producers with local community groups encourages not only the uptake of high quality locally produced food, but also engages producers, encouraging value to be added to farming products. The co-ops help to maintain the local economy through recycling homespun finance and address government policy Local Agenda 21 through reducing the number of miles that food travels.
