The latest Shortwave Report (May 7) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.4MB) (28:56)
This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, the Voice of Russia, Spanish National Radio, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From Netherlands- A part of a press review about the state of democracy in the US, in light of the billion dollar presidential campaign. World Press Freedom Day was held this week, and here are some comments from a leader of Reporters Without Borders. Then an interview with a spokesperson from the International Committee of the Red Cross on their role and limitations in situations like the torture of Iraqi prisoners.
From Russia- A former US Ambassador and member of the National Security Council, Joseph Wilson, has published a book about the true story of what led to the invasion of Iraq. When Wilson publically spoke out about Bush’s reasons for going to war, his wife was exposed as a spy by the administration.
From Spain- First an update on the war on Palestine and Lebanon. Then a series of press reviews covering Sharon's latest strategy on the Gaza Strip, confirmation that Spain will not send troops even if the UN tries to control Iraq, and the battle in Fallujah. Cuba got into a conflict with Mexico, and they pulled and expelled diplomats.
From Cuba- Cuba believes the US is behind its diplomatic row with Mexico. Then a different perspective on the deadly attack on Fallujah, which may have united several different factions in Iraq. Finally a Viewpoint on Otto Reich's resignation as a Bush appointed special ambassador to Latin America.
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday evening at 7pm on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via http://www.kzyx.org
There are several other streams that work better- http://www.freakradio.org Freak Radio Santa Cruz (96.3fm) now streams this program on Friday at 9:30am (PST)
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)- http://www.radiolavalamp.org
streaming the SWR, check out the schedule.
And the Partytown streams are great and informative- http://www.partytown.com/radio
I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt!
