Gary Teeley. But the Italian amy major spokesman for the contingent in Nassiriya stated that this was a load of old bollox (my translation) and that "Mr Teeley had been handed over to the local iraqi authorities who passed him on to the Italians".
Seems like a bit of James Bond / flying the flag style propaganda from the Mail some government spin.
Anyway the article is pretty conclusive although i didn't actually see either of the articles in the mail or the sunday mail so maybe the Italians are making it up . I searched for the story on the net and couldn't find it at either the mail on sunday or the mail.
But I did find it on the BBC and they confirm the italian version. I have been a bit slack posting this it's been kicking around for a couple of days. I don't really have time to bash in the whole article but if any media watchers request it I will ..
Evidently the Ministry of Defence were asked to comment but said that procedure did not allow them to make any comment where special forces were in operation "Were they really ? " maybe they also don't comment on propaganda stunts
