ABOUT THE BOOK:
In Israel over a thousand soldiers have signed a petition opposing
Israel's policies on the Occupied Palestinian Territories. Many of the
'refuseniks' have served prison sentences rather than serve an unjust
occupation in defence of illegal Jewish settlements. Soldiers of
Conscience gives us the stories, experiences, viewpoints, even poetry, of
these officers and ordinary footsoldiers, men and women, from every ethnic
background and class who believe in their country, but not in its actions
beyond its borders.


ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:


Peretz Kidron was born in Vienna; at the age of 5, he became a refugee
from Nazi persecution. He lived through the Blitz in Britain, and spent 20
years on a border kibbutz in Israel. He was an early refusenik. Eliat Maoz
is aged 18. Nine months ago she was one of the authors of a letter to
Ariel Sharon explaining why a group of young people refused to serve in
the Israeli army.
