Around 1600 monkeys are kept here, they have to go through tests in which they are gassed, blinded, mutilated and burned.
The BPRC is performing tests in the area of infection-illnesses (such as AIDS, hepatitis and malaria), xenotransplantation, radiation, tear gas (for self defence), chronic diseases,...

After years of research there are few results and even these are not reliable. The monkeys are not developing the human AIDS, which the researchers had to admit long ago. Despite this a whole colony of monkeys are being held captive in the BPRC for AIDS-research.
