Movements of Resistence: SAN SALVADOR
Ojos de Agua | 30.11.2003 23:36 | Social Struggles
Last Thursday and Friday took place in san Salvador, El Salvador, a forum organised by the El Salvadorean "Movimiento Popular de Resistencia 12 de Octubre" entitled "Experiences of Popular Resistence against Neoliberalism and Excluding Globalization".
Movements from broad and wide Latin America converged in this city to share their experiences in the construction of the new society.
From San Salvador we heard about the struggles against the privatisation of the Health Service -a 9 month long strike finished succesfully recently. We had the chance to learn more about our Mexican brothers and sisters from the El Campo No Aguanta Mas -literally: "the countryside will take no more"- and from a Zapatista representative from Los caracoles.
From Central America, we were visited by the Bloque Popular, the movimiento estudiantil, Coordinadora de Organizaciones populares e Indígenas (COPINH) from Honduras, CEIBA from Guatemala, the Alternativa Patriotica Popular from Panama, La Mesa Nacional Campesina from Costa Rica, plus many others.
From South America, the MST and the Anti-dam movement from Brasil, ACIA and ASCOBA from Colombia, Pachakutik from Ecuador, La Iniciativa Paraguaya No al ALCA de Paraguay, and from Bolivia la Asociación de Familiares de Desaparecidos y Mártires por la Liberación Nacional (ASOFAMAD) and Comisión de Lucha contra la Impunidad de Bolivia.
All sharing their particular stories of struggle, all different but at the same time the same.
You can read all about the forum in the webpage below. You will find pictures, the final declaration, the result of the working tables, and a brief summary.
