Protests Against Bush in Edinburgh - Police Lines Broken
The Boy | 19.11.2003 23:11 | Bush 2003 | Analysis | Social Struggles
In the first march the protestors assembled in Bristo Square, by Edinburgh University, and marched to the US Consulate where an effigy of Bush was toppled and subsequently burned.
In the evening, a larger protest was assembled in the city's Charlotte Square where the official residence of the Scottish First Minister is located. During the march, the protestors succesfully ran at (and past!) the police lines and, when confronted with barriers preventing them from marching all the way to the US Consulate, promptly threw them to the side and attempted to get past the rows of police to protest outside the US Consulate. In the end it was to no avail and we had to pull back and listen to speakers 50 metres or so from the Consultae itself.
