Indymedia Cinema @ London Anarchist Bookfair

An indymedia cinema is running at the London Anarchist Bookfair today, see the programme below. Lots of imcistas are going to be around, including those who want to work on a local imc in London. Operation Solstice (Battle of the Beanfield) / Neil Goodwin 1996, 47 mins

'Recounts the story of how 420 people were arrested on 1 June 1985 on their way to Stonehenge to hold the 11th People's Free Festival. Using video footage, the police radio log, photographs and personal testimony to recreate what became known as the BATTLE OF THE BEANFIELD, this documentary presents horrifying evidence of the semi-military tactics employed by police as they attacked people and destroyed travellers' homes.

Oil be Damned (Baku-Ceyhan pipeline) / London Rising Tide 2003, 20 mins
A very critical look at BP's planned Baku-Ceyhan pipeline – the film acts as a powerful indictment of BP and Big Oil wherever it operates.

Trading Freedom: the secret life of the FTAA / Indymedia 2002, 56 mins

Offers an explanation of the Free Trade Area of Americas, a proposed economic zone that will regulate the economic activity of one-sixth of humanity, overriding local democracy in favour of "rights" for multinational corporations throughout the Americas. This film is the story of those who resist – from Chiapas to Quebec - indigenous struggles, working-class organizations, women in rebellion, media activists, and a huge network of NGOs.

KILOMETER 0 (WTO in Cancun) / IMC Cancun project 2003, 57 mins

From September 10th to September 14th 2003, the WTO barricaded itself inside of Cancun, Mexico's luxury hotel strip to set the terms along which our lives would be bought and sold. Tens of thousands of people came from around the world to rip down their fences and stop the meetings. By the end of the week the steel barricade was a twisted wreck and the talks collapsed as delegates fromt Asia and Africa walked out.

'Voces argentinas' (Short from the popular uprising) / Zoe Young 2002, 16mins

Interwoven voices from the streets of Buenos Aires tell how it feels to be Argentine as the country plunges fast from the first world to the third.

Papua Merdeka (Free Papua) / fPcN_interCultura 2003, 40 mins

Told by the O.P.M. (Free Papua Movement) and many leaders of the Papuan tribes. The film shows, dramatically how the western half of New Guinea fell under brutal Indonesian control and the resulting consequences for the natives of West Papua.

We Interupt This Empire / 2003, 50 Mins

How activists in San Francisco shut down their city on the day attacks on Iraq began in ernest (compare + contrast to london!). The film also examines in depth the causes and effects of the war against iraq and takes a swipe at the media and propaganda that saturated our screens.

IOM The Film / Gina Bremen 2003, 30mins

Tackling the International Organisation of Migration - They spy on migrants, migrant networks and NGOs. They report back to the EU and US and recommend action. Wherever migration occurs, new border regimes are erected and new technologies introduced under the hospice of the IOM. They recommend migration hostile policies, they sell the latest control technology, they train police officers and border troops to combat migration, they plan and build control posts and detention camps.

Woomera Breakout / Ska TV 2002, 30 mins

Easter 2002, activists from around Australia converged upon Woomera Detention Centre to protest the federal government's mandatory detention of refugees. Activists coordinated with the detainees' protests from within the detention centre resulting in the mass break out of 50 refugees.

On The Buses / Conscious Cinema/Indymedia 2003, 10 mins

The story of the Fairford Coach Kidnap when two coach loads of anti-war protestors from london were kidnapped by police while on their way to a demonstration at RAF Fairford, and forcibly returned to london under a large police escort. This outrageous abuse is now the subject of a Judicial Review.

Ruffcut of film in production - from the week of actions and events against Europe's largest arms fair held in London's docklands through the week of september 11th 2003 - from boat actions to blockades.
