On Wed May 28 and Thu May 29, protesters and locals are preparing for the next days. Geneva shops are boarded up [pics 1 | 2], while residents are taking pictures of their strangely changed town. Activists are streaming into the four protest camps near Lausanne (Switzerland) and Annemasse (France).
On Wednesday, a first cheerful pink & silver demo took place in Lausanne, more followed the next day. The Schengen agreement has been temporarily lifted to control the borders while activists are on their way to the Anti-G8 protests.

Annemasse has been declared an "Intergalactic" town. A demo of more than 1,000 people led by the pink and silver bloc took place in conmemoration of Carlo Giuliani, the activist murdered by the Italian police during the anti-G8 protests in Genoa 2001. Not much police presence in the area, and many local people welcomed the protestors. A minute of silence was observed in memory of Carlo Giuliani.
Lausanne (Ch) - After a quiet morning, thousands took to the streets for a colourful protest briefly interupted by torrential rain. A brief standoff with police was soon diffused as the protest ended peacefully. Report and pics (scroll down for english) of today's demonstration against the G8 - plus another report and pics.
