LIVE LONG AND PROSPER
Crown Prince Abdullah was appointed by his brother, King Fahd, to be the Deputy Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia and is its de facto ruler. Their country consistently gathers the highest revenue out of OPEC's total annual revenue and is therefore, a powerful voice in the middle east. Saudi Arabia has the worlds largest proven oil reserves, 261 billion barrels, compared to the second largest, Iraq with 112 billion barrels. For 2003, Saudi Arabia is forecast to earn nearly $50 billion in net oil export revenues, 75% of their total state revenue. Although wealthy, Saudi Arabia has one of the highest execution rates in the world. Abdullah is close to George W. Bush and has visited his Texas ranch.
Henry Kissinger served as National Security Advisor in the Nixon White House, personally oversaw the illegal carpet bombing of Cambodia and Laos, and is reported to consult his attorneys before traveling overseas. His recent nomination by George W Bush to run the 911 investigation committee, was scuttled by public outcry. Pressure to reveal potentially conflicting business interests led him to decline the nomination.
Donald Rumsfeld served as CEO of two fortune 500 companies, has sat on the Board of Directors of many more including ABB, a multinational company which sold hundreds of millions of dollars of nuclear technology to North Korea. He served as Assistant and Counselor to the President in the Nixon White House. Currently, as Secretary of Defense in the Bush White House, he is a major proponent of carpet bombing as well as the use of small scale nuclear devices in warfare.
Through apposition of these images I hope to draw a relationship between political power, energy industry, and their intertwining which spans over many decades and through many political administrations.
