Britain's military HQ blocked
Anti war activists from ARROW and the D10 Group blocked the gates to PJHQ
Northwood, Britain's military HQ for 30 minutes this morning at 8.50 am, as
hundreds of staff attempted to enter the base, planning headquarters for
Britain's war with Iraq.
The actvists who were carrying a banner reading Obstruction for Peace were
Gabriel Carlyle and Sue Brush of ARROW and Ippy Dee and Anselm Heaton of the
D10 Group.
After they had been in front of the gates for a short while a member of
staff at the base arrived and assaulted one of the activists, placing them
in an armlock and pushing their face in the ground but he relented when the
activists quietly suggested that he should perhaps wait for the police to
arrive
The police arrived at 9.30 am, and after a short, friendly discourse, the
activists left the base.
ARROW activist Gabriel Carlyle, a mathematician, 27, said "Attacking Iraq is
illegal and will ahve a devastating impact on civilians, leading, according
to Oxfam, to a humanitarian catastrophe.
People all over the country need to turn their dissent into disobedience now
and stop this vile war. Staff at Northwood should turn their cars around, go
home and play no further part in plotting death and destruction."
Northwood will be the focus of the London end of the Reclaim the Bases
weekend being planned for April 5th an 6th. See www.reclaimthebases.org.uk
