Dressed in white radiation suits, carrying slogans of 'stop the war', and 'drop sanctions not bombs', they intended to gain entry into the establishment to take part in a weapons inspection.
Raytheon is a major missile manufacturer supplying weapons of mass destruction to a wide range of clients. As news of weapons inspections in Iraq were reaching us in Europe, the protesters decided it was time to find out what lay in Scotland.
After several attempts to gain entry a few decided to take action, with one protester climbing the fence in an act of defiance; at this point the local police were called but no arrests were made.
One protester said "When we asked the police to enable us to inspect the premises, they asked us if we had made an appointment with Raytheon. We replied that if we had done this, Raytheon would have had time to remove their equipment!"
It was one of many National Days of Action against the war with Iraq. A spokesperson from the Stop the War coalition said "We are expecting a lot more of this type of thing happening with the threat of war looming."
