ANOTHER Scots soldier has been found dead in suspicious circumstances at an army base in England.
Private Andrew Dobson, 23, from Dumfries, was discovered unconscious on the floor of his room at McMullen Barracks, near Southampton, on Sunday evening.
He was taken to Southampton General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
A 23-year-old soldier was being questioned by police yesterday, after being arrested on suspicion of murder.
The mother of Private James Collinson, 17, from Perth, who died from a gunshot wound to the head at Deepcut Barracks in Surrey, last night expressed shock at the latest death, and called for an urgent inquiry into claims of widespread bullying and abuse within the army.
Pte Dobson was serving with the 17 Port and Maritime Regiment at Marchwood military port . He joined the army six years ago, before transferring to 17 Port and Maritime in May last year.
Detectives from Hampshire Police launched an investigation into his death after they were called in by military police officers.
Yvonne Collinson, who is campaigning for a public inquiry into the deaths of her son and three other soldiers at Deepcut, said: "How many more must die before the government does something? There needs to be an investigation into the deaths. We're trying to stop deaths and an inquiry should be instituted urgently."
A forensic team continued to search the McMullen Barracks yesterday, while a Home Office pathologist carried out a post-mortem examination on Pte Dobson.
A spokeswoman for Hampshire Police said: "We are treating this death as suspicious.
"Pte Dobson was discovered collapsed in his room by a colleague. It appears he had suffered no obvious signs of external injury."
A spokeswoman for the MoD said: "Let's have the post-mortem and police investigation before jumping to conclusions."
The military port, to the west of Southampton, is used to store vehicles and supplies ready for loading on to Royal Fleet Auxiliary ships.
Two months ago, hundreds of military vehicles, lorries and cranes were massed at the base, in preparedness for any war with Iraq.

US FORMALLY REQUESTS UK TROOPS FOR IRAQ WAR
The United States has formally asked Britain to mobilize troops for a possible deployment in Iraq, British Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon said on Wednesday. The British government is expected to offer a substantial ground
force. While numbers have not been fixed, the total military support package could amount to between 20,000 and 30,000 personnel.

BUSH AIDE: INSPECTIONS OR NOT, WE'LL ATTACK IRAQ
George W. Bush's top security adviser last night admitted the US would attack Iraq even if UN inspectors fail to find weapons. Dr Richard Perle stunned his listeners by insisting a "clean bill of health" from UN chief weapons inspector Hans Blix would not halt America's war machine. Evidence from just one witness on Saddam Hussein's weapons programme will be enough to trigger a fresh military onslaught, he told an all-party meeting on global security.
