Sweden: SAC: Boliden must take their responsibility!
vicinity of the mine.
The spanish government has demanded 45 million euros by the company, the highest environmental penalty ever judged in the country.
The broken dam was really not an accident. That the dam should broke hade been predicted long since by an engineer employed by the company. Despite this, the company chose to do nothing. They consciously let the "accident" happen, because measures would have cost money.
The responsible owner for the dam, Boliden, washed their hands of it and sought scapegoats. Because of this Boliden refuses to pay for all the damages they have caused.
The 27th congress of SAC - the syndicalists demands:
- That boliden take their responsibility for the catastrophe they caused and both pay the fines and restore the area.
- That the Swedish government applies pressure on Boliden so that the company takes it's responsibility and pays the fine the Spanish government has demanded.
- That, if necessary, the Swedish government employs jurudicial measures against Boliden.
