Strasbourg - Media activists removed from city centre

As part of the activities connected to the noborder camp in Strasbourg, Publix Theatre Caravan in cooperation with Indymedia austria and Indymedia uk are creating a noborder zone in the city centre. Through street interventions, communication guerilla and several hours of radio streaming per day they are informing the people of Strasbourg and others of the importance of immigration, government surveillance and other border issues.
Today's caravan was the first group to leave the noborder camp for an action since the prefecture banned all noborder activities outside the camp. The Publix Theatre Caravan has its own independent permission for their actions in the city and decided on that basis that their activities should not be affected by the prefecture?s decree. Unfortunately the police thought otherwise. When the bus and van with artivists arrived at the main city square, they were awaited by more than ten police vans, three police busses and the head of police. After they decended the bus, the head of police took the spokesperson of the group aside and told him to remove the busses and people as soon as possible, on threat of confiscation of the Publix Theatre bus. The group told the police they were operating independently from the noborder camp, but the police did not see this as a reason to let the information project take place.
During the negotiations with the police, artivists made small street performances, mimicking military moves and playing children?s games. Pictures and video's will be uploaded soon at the noborder zone website.
When driving to the camp, the bus was followed by two plainclothed police men on motor bikes
Other groups in the noborder camp have decided to continue their actions as well, so keep on checking IMC UK for updates.
