Communications Bill Debate broadcast live on Net

People interested in community and alternative media in the UK might be interested in this historic opportunity...
The Draft Communications Bill is being examined by a Pre-Legislative Committee of MPs and Peers at the moment. Tomorrow (Thursday May 23rd), the Independent Television Commission and the Radio Authority will be giving evidence to this committee. For the first time in Parliamentary history, this evidence will be webcast and then members of the public will be able to send in their views on the evidence by email.
The e-mail will be received by a Mediator working for the committee [appointed by the independent Hansard Society] who will weed out any e-junk and distil the useful contributions for the consideration of members of the committee.
If you would like to view this, then just go to www.parliamentlive.tv this Thursday at 10:15am onwards, watch the evidence being given and then send a helpful e-mail to the address
edemocracy@lse.ac.uk which will be displayed along the bottom of the screen.
In addition there will be a web forum at www.commbill.net (not live yet] that the Hansard Society has been commissioned to provide. From 23rd May a holding page will be up explaining what will be happening on the forum, giving people the opportunity to email their comments prior to 10 June to be then fed into the forum and reported to the Committee.
The Joint Committee has arranged the following public hearings:
Thursday 23 May
* 10.15 am Independent Television Commission
11.00 am Broadcasting Standards Commission
* 11.30 am Radio Authority
Monday 27 May 6.15 pm Oftel
7.00 pm Radio communications Agency
7.30 pm Office of Fair Trading and Competition Commission
The Committee expects to hold further public hearings after these and we are working to ensure that representatives of community media make presentations to the committee.
