3 days of direct action has just finished at the Faslane nuclear submarine base. Each day gates into the base were blockaded by a combination of sit downs, samba and lockons. Around 500 people took part in the mass blockade on Monday (11th feb) which saw over 100 arrests including politicians and
clergy (
report). Tuesday saw more blockades and a 'jericho rumpus' noise protest and around 30 arrests (
report). Wednesday concluded with a carnival style 'valentine's ball', more actions and about 30 arrests, bringing the total to almost 200 (
report). While in Scotland the majority of the public support the protests and those activists engaging in civil disobedience, media coverage has been almost non-existent.
