Anti war activists to shut down British Command and Control base
Hundreds of determined anti war activists will gather at 7.30 am Monday
10th December, International Human Rights Day, at British Military Joint
Forces HQ Northwood (nearest Tube Northwood , Met Line) in a nonviolent blockade aimed at closing the base and halting Britain's military aggression in Afghanistan and all around the world.
Richard Byrne, one of the organisers of the action, said,
"We are intending to blockade the British military forces joint
headquarters at Northwood on Monday, Human Rights day in order to draw attention to the responsibility that the British government must take for the violations of human rights and breaches of international humanitarian law perpetrated by British and US forces in the war in Afghanistan (1) "
“War happens because Governments all over the world are wedded to militarism. People in this country forget that the soldiers of the Taliban are subject to the same pressures to conform to militarism as we are. They are defeated, imprisoned, slaughtered now not because they are inherently evil but simply because they were born in the south of Afghanistan and not the north. Ordinary people can stop this war, people can stop war all over the world by refusing to co-operate. Pilots can refuse to drop cluster bombs, daisy cutters and all the warmongers’ instruments of misery. Civilians can do what we are doing, get together with others and obstruct the war machine."
The action is sponsored by London Region CND, Campaign Against the Arms Trade, Fellowship of Reconciliation, Youth and Student CND, Aldermaston Women's Peace Camp and London Catholic Worker.
