Today, people in the capital Buenos Aires engaged in a small-scale protest to expose the crippling effects of similar proposals that the 4th ministerial round of WTO talks in Qatar is attempting to impose throughout the world.
The action began at 1pm from meeting point in Florida and Diagonal norte in downturn Buenos Aires, after which it moved toward centre of the city. The protest had a festive atmosphere but people wore black to represent how privatisation and economic policies have had a disastrous impact on the majority of people in Argentina. The protestors distributed leaflets and carried posters with slogans: "against the mass media... for the creation of our own media",
"agains the militarisation of our everyday life" and "against consumerism" as well as "down with the WTO"
The march made a symbolic march to capitalist landmark, the stock exchange, which has been a major cause of poverty and misery throughout Argentina.
Police maintained a strong presence throughout the protest.
