PAUL ROBINSON
Paul was arrested at the protests against the EU summit in Gothenburg
when the police surrounded a school being used as a convergence center
(in a foretaste of Genoa). On 25th July he was convicted of violent
rioting. According to the BBC he was seen on video throwing stones. He
was sentenced to one year and under Swedish law will sever two thirds of
his sentence. His lawyers are considering an appeal. At the same time,
jail terms ranging from 18 to 15 months were handed out to a 25-year-old
German and two Swedes, aged 20 and 38.
Paul was shocked and disheartened by the length of his sentence, which
will be made worse by the difficulty of having visits so far from home.
Please write letters of support at this difficult time.

All five people from the UK have now been released as the charges were
ruled illegal. Mark Covell, better know as Sky, remains in hospital.
Please send him a get-well card (bit do it straightaway as he will no
doubt be deported as soon as he is well enough).

ITALY
Protests were held in London on Sunday 22nd and Monday 23rd July at the
Italian embassy. We know that at least 2 people were arrested on Sunday
ñ one was released with no charge and one was cautioned for minor
criminal damage ñ and a s60 order was imposed. Two more people were
arrested on Monday, leading to a demo at the police station. Again one
was released without charge, but one was charged with a minor public
order offence (s5) and will appear in court this week.
A further protest has been called for Saturday:
Mass NOISE demo at Italian Embassy on Saturday 29th July 2pm. Call to all
anarchists, socialists, anti-capitalists, trade unionists and any one who
wants change in our society to gather at 2pm outside the Italian embassy
on Saturday. Bring as many people as possible, form affinity groups to do
action against these murderers, publicise the murder of our brother Carlo
as far as possible. All out on the streets on Saturday!! Smash Fascism,
Smash Capitalism!!
Our advice on s60 and other public order laws is still posted on the
WOMBLES website ñ please read it!
