Latest news from Campsfield: Protest camp opened
Kursk Womble | 19.07.2001 11:58
The police have made all the pubs in the nearby town of Kidlington close, and have been deploying officers on public transport buses to check for "agitators". The continuing heavy police presence has deterred some people who have been searched and prevented from gaining access to the protest camp.
The police have also stolen the keys to one of the camp group's vehicles, preventing them from unloading properly: legal action against the cops has already been initiated. Film crews have been lurking aroud the area, interviewing locals and protesters. The cops have been using disinformation to scare local people away from the camp (and you can guess how happy they at their pubs being forced to close!).
Extra fences have been built inside the detention centre, and around 80 of the prisoners have been moved elsewhere.
Support is needed right now! Call 07900 653990 or 07960 973 847 when you arrive at Oxford station - for directions and the latest information on cop movements. All those who missed the Globalise Resistance train: why not come to Campsfield instead?
The main actions are STILL ON! Get to the camp on Saturday 21 July, around early afternoon: bring yourself, your mates, overalls, water and a sense of fun!
