Look down on the ground, is it a Bilby? Is it a Potaroo? No, it's the WOMBATS!!!!
>
It's official, the newest marsupial heroes in Melbourne, the WOMBATS(White Overall Mobile Buffer Against Truncheon Strikes) will soon be snuffling their way to a protest near you.
>
We are a non-violent group of people who whilst wearing protective gear will act as a defensive buffer between police with violent tendencies and less-well protected protesting members of the public.
>
We feel that this tactic is justified after the police violence displayed at S11 and other actions. We are not anti-police and will do our best to promote peaceful protest.
>
>> ( fwd'er comment - rad overall, but the police are our enemies, I want a world without police )
>
The WOMBATS have been inspired by the British WOMBLES (White Overall
Movement Building Libertarian Effective Struggles) and Italian 'Ya Basta!'.

Our aim is to stay safe and keep other people safe. Our costumes and protective gear will also make a strong visual statement about our defensive intentions and provide a spectacular spectacle.
>
But whatever the media calls us, you can't call WOMBATS UnAustralian!
>
Our first major appearance at a protest will be at
Nuclear Free Australia's 'SHUTDOWN THE 2-PARTY SHYSTERS!' starting 7:00AM, August 6th at the Liberal Party HQ, 104 Exhibition St.
>
The WOMBATS also plan to be appearing at other upcoming protests like the Commonwealth Business Forum and possibly Nike blockades.
We aim to infuse the WOMBATS with a killer sense of humour. We will be all-singing, all-dancing WOMBATS. So think up some creative ideas and routines we can adopt. The police won't know whether to laugh or cry!
We won't just eat, roots and leaves. We're in for the long haul. Join Us!
