Italy: claiming the right to demonstrate freely in Genoa in the next July

Juin the 2nd 2001 – Roma. The Settle people throw away their masks and show their real violent face: water guns and pistols, blowpipes, and especially a heavy rain of high caloric potential > (cream or chocolate, depending on the targets!) that has heavily fallen on eight sinister characters in tie and suit, who thought they could decide about the future of the world sitting at their table.
This was the desecrating atmosphere of the press conference held by the R.A.G.E., the roman anti economic globalisation network, in the early afternoon in front of the Viminale, where the Ministry of Internal affairs is housed. At the same time similar initiatives were held in many other Italian cities, with the common goals of revealing the heavy criminalization climate around the antiliberist movement and of claiming the right to demonstrate freely in Genoa in the next July.
The roman network was born a few weeks ago and it has together many social, political and associative realities, which bet on their differences while working for the raising of a participated mobilisation at the countersummit in Genoa. The two speakers have reported the government’s try to obstruct in all manners the democratic participation to the protest against the summit, emphasising how unlawful and illegitimate these overnational subjects are. In the past weeks weird and alarming news have been spread by the secret services and the center right political forces are instrumentally repeating them. News about so-called "bacteriologic" attacks, "islamic incursions" and similar other amenities that the protesters will undergo.
Unfortunately, besides the irony, the immediate consequence of this intimidatory climate was the arresting the last third of May of three activists, who were "guilty" only of being engaged in the antiliberist battles in this city, but to this we must also add the violent charges of the police during some recent antifascist and antiracist demonstration parades.
Some left wing deputies were also present at the conference, which immediately turned into a participated and ironical assembly.
