Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir John Stevens has announced today that the police won't be using rubber bullets, contrary to chairman of the Metropolitan Police Authority Lord Harris saying rubber bullets would be used.

Rubber bullets were of course phased out in the 70s due to a number of incidents where police killed people with them.

Incidentally, the BBC reports that "Lord Harris denied police would be armed with CS gas, but said it was much more likely that officers would have their own sprays."

Does this mean that police are allowed to bring their own personal weapons to mayday? Are they carring around unauthorised CS sprays?
