> To the Président of Ecuador, Gustavo Noboa
>
> Gentlemen,
> Today, we convened a demonstration and occupied the Mission of Ecuador to
> the WTO in order to manifest our solidarity with the exemplary struggle of
> the people of your country - the organisations of indigenous, farmers,
> women, unions and others - against the criminal policies imposed by the
> World Bank, IMF and WTO.
>
> For the moment an agreement has been signed, a victory for the popular
> forces that has once again held off the worst consequences of these
> policies. But the victory of the people was betrayed last year and we know
> that the transnationals and the international organisations that serve
them
> will attack again.
>
> That is why we maintained our action. In order to signify to you that we
> will remain vigilant, ready to mobilise the next time that our courageous
> friends of Ecuador are attacked. The world is changing. These last years
> solidarity has also been globalising. In Geneva, Seattle, Prague, Puerto
> Allegre, Davos and in Quito too, the peoples are discovering that they
have
> the same ennemies and the same allies.
>
> Last week, the armed forces of Ecuador fired, killing 6 peaceful
> demonstrators and wounding 26 others. You are in a political impasse, in
> total opposition to the will of your own people. If you wish to continue
to
> follow the orders from abroad, you will have to continue to kill, to
impose
> dictatorship foreign to the tradition of your country. We ask you to
> reconsider this miserable and shameful perspective. And to begin by
> applying honestly the agreement signed and all possible measures of
> compensation for the victims of the repression.
>
